This Looks G-O-O-O-D!!!

Boy! That serpent sure is devious. He started out by asking woman to verify a lie, which drew her into conversation. Then he insinuated that God lied to her. ending by promising her the desire of her innocent heart to wit: being like God, the one she looked up to and wanted to be like. Lets continue.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Notice here that the woman looked at the tree. Was this the first time? Well we notice that she looked upon it in a unique way, realizing that it had fruit and fruit was food. She saw it was a pretty. And that it served the purpose of making the eater like God. Suddenly, to her lusting mind, the pros of the tree outweighed the one con - disobeying God. So she had to have one and indeed found it good enough that she passed it on to her husband to eat. It was her being a dutiful wife. He ate.

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
After they ate, they understood that what they had done was evil. They understood that they were naked and that being naked was not a good thing anymore. The first thing they did upon realizing this sin, was to sew fig leaves together into aprons. The word for apron here literally means belt or girdle. It means that they covered the waist down. So the very first fashion design was a simple yet functional article that wrapped at the waist and extended the length of a fig leaf (roughly 5-10") downwards.

Well, the serpent sure played woman like a fiddle as the saying goes. He used her emotions to his advantage. Which just goes to show, that one should always watch the desires of one's heart.

Christian, Hey, I don't like stories that end badly, and this one didn't have a 'happy-ever-after ending. The thing that intrigues me is that Eve, was deceived, but Adam was not. Ever wonder what would have happened if--he had not? Eaten that is. Deboraw

Dear Deboraw,

Thank you for your comment.

I like happy-ever-after-endings too and in reality this one does, its just that it takes a good while longer to get there than usual.

Yes I have wondered what would have happened had Adam not eaten of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I have also wondered why Eve and not Adam, why they had not yet eaten of the tree of life, did they have children in the garden, and other such thoughts. But then the 2x4 usually hits me square between the eyes and says: "You dummy! What does it matter? The fact is that it did happen, and we aren't told the answers to the rest because it doesn't have any bearing upon the great plan of redemption! Stop worrying about such irrelevant questions and focus upon what is told as it is for your learning (Romans 15:4)." Dumb 2x4. I suppose I need it though. Still, it smarts.

Christian, But sometimes the answers to those questions help us deal with other things...as long as they aren't merely idle curiosity.

1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

2Co 4:4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them.

Desires of our hearts? Mat 15:18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man. Kind of a scary thought? Deboraw

Christian, Those last two should have gone together, you see. The thing is that once 'Pandora has opened her box', there is no turning back for anyone. Kind of sad, but that is the way it goes. And the serpent is still beguiling the majority of the world today. It reminds me of that Sci-Fi (?) show--Dr. WHO where they would have those battle scenes and the instigators were actually invaders from another planet. Ha! Deboraw

Christian, After she had opened "Pandora's" box there was no turning back for anyone. Kind of sad, but it reminds me somewhat of that Sci-fi show where they have the war in progress, and the instigators are actually invaders from another planet. But those involved in the 'war' can't see them. Well, just a thought. Deboraw
